Just how essential are block units in your classroom?

Block units allow and encourage children to have easy access to equipment, creating autonomy (LO 1.2 Children develop their emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency) in their play.

They are child height and provide the option of more than one type of construction to be displayed. It gives the children an inviting aesthetic to the area and allows the children to easily make choices from the equipment available.

Try adding a variety of different resources to your block unit to coincide with the topic you are focusing on or the children are showing an interest on at any given time! Add wooden animals to your jungle theme with images in the back of your unit to stimulate this play!
