How this product aligns with the EYLF
Developing early STEM and problem-solving skills
The 4M Green Science Solar System encourages children to engage with fundamental concepts of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on construction and exploration. As children assemble the motorised model, they develop problem-solving skills by figuring out how the components fit together and function, fostering logical thinking and an understanding of cause and effect.
Supporting play-based learning and inquiry
This interactive kit invites children to explore their curiosity about space and planetary motion in a playful context. By constructing the solar system and observing the planets’ movements, children engage in inquiry-based learning, asking questions and seeking answers about the universe, which enhances their engagement and motivation to learn.
Relevant EYLF Outcomes
Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners.
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators.
Classroom, Play Activity & Provocation Ideas
Classroom & Learning Area Ideas
Set up a dedicated STEM corner where children can explore the solar system model alongside books and resources about space, encouraging independent inquiry.
Incorporate the solar system model into a science display, allowing children to share their findings and observations with peers.
Play-Based Activity Ideas
Encourage children to role-play as astronauts or scientists, using the solar system model to create stories about space exploration and planetary adventures.
Organise a collaborative building challenge where children work together to construct the solar system, fostering teamwork and communication skills.
Provocation Ideas
Introduce questions about the solar system, such as “What would it be like to live on another planet?” to spark discussions and further exploration.
Provide materials for children to create their own planets or space-themed artwork, linking their creative expression to the scientific concepts they are learning.
